    Amwaste Map & Update

    Amwaste Changes

Mayor Patrick McClusky gave a detailed update to the council after a recent meeting with Amwaste, attended by city leaders from surrounding municipalities. In order to respond to citizen requests, provide a more consistent and earlier route completion time, and provide more efficient service, Amwaste has announced changes in pick-ups days for some residents. This adjustment will not impact everyone. To help facilitate the transition and so people can see if their days are changing, Amwaste has developed an interactive Google map to help find your days (or click image above).

Be on the lookout for a bright yellow flyer in your mailbox that will help explain these changes. Similar changes are being implemented in other local municipalities to enhance overall garbage services. Amwaste stated they plan to kick off new route days right after spring break (end of March).

After the recent retirement of Chief Nick Hill, Mayor Patrick McClusky has named Brandon Broadhead as the new fire chief for the City of Homewood. Broadhead brings almost 20 years of experience within Homewood's fire department to the role, having served in various leadership positions, most recently as deputy chief. Brandon is very proficient with technology, and will bring that expertise to this position. His top priority is to use technology and other methods to help ensure the deployment of the right personnel for efficient emergency response, rather than a predefined list of firefighters and paramedics. Broadhead also wants to foster strong relationships with surrounding municipalities, enabling seamless collaboration in responding to emergencies within each other's jurisdictions, bolstering staffing and equipment capabilities - a common practice that strengthens the resilience of all departments.

    Amwaste Update
    07 Mar, 2024
The Finance committee approved a $235k budget amendment to work with Tyler Technologies to provide an online civic access permitting portal that provides a paperless plan review and permitting system. The current software used by the building permits/inspections department and zoning board is outdated and no longer supported, prompting the city to seek a modern system for a seamless paperless workflow connecting all city services online. This financial commitment is a significant step towards modernizing city operations while enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in handling permits, inspections, and zoning matters. The new system is designed to offer streamlined workflows, seamless integration of data, and enhanced communication channels including the ability for city staff from various departments to review documents and provide feedback through a civilian access portal and virtual plan review environment. This item will be voted on by the full council March 11, 2024. Watch the full committee video below that offers more details and the presentation from Tyler Technologies.
