Finance Highlights 11/13/23
1. Committee approved a request to authorize the Mayor to sign the "Flock Camera" renewal with the addition of several new cameras. Chief of Police, Tim Ross, provided information related to the vital use of these cameras including assisting in apprehending many suspected of crimes in Homewood.
2. Committee received an update from Amwaste detailing the first 13 weeks of their garbage service for the city. Representatives outlined many of the hurdles they had faced and their plan to address issues that come up. They explained many of the missed pick ups were either underestimation of trucks needed, broken down trucks, or mis-communication among their employees that led to carts being missed. They reminded citizens of a few things including not parking in front of carts, placing the carts at least four feet from any fixed object, like street signs or mailboxes, and placing them three feet from the curb.

Public Works Highlights 11/13/23
1. Committee approved a request to remove two pine trees located in the City right-of-way at 308 Devon Drive at the owner's expense.
2. Committee forwarded a request to the full council for consideration to permit a front yard retaining wall in right-of-way at 3019 Firefighter Lane. The building contractor explained they received all the correct permits and approvals prior to installing the wall when they built the house, so they were unaware the wall ended up being in the city's right-of-way. The committee asked about what looks like a front yard fence above the retaining wall, but it was explained that any structure of this height that has a walkable space must have a "guard" at the top of the wall, so it is not considered a front yard fence.
