Melody Salter, the current City Clerk, will clock out for the last time January 31, capping off a legacy of service with 26 years of governmental work. But make no mistake, there are no rocking chairs being purchased for her porch! As a workaholic, she plans to have purposeful pursuits for years to come.
Known for her remarkable capacity for constant productivity, in other words, she worked all the time, Melody has been a pivotal figure in the city's governance. Her expertise and leadership have played a vital part in shaping the financial and administrative landscape of Homewood.
Melody's path to public service began after graduating from McCalla High School. She earned an accounting degree, and began working as a controller for a construction company. But that wasn't enough. Showcasing her passion for learning, she got a nursing degree and spent time working at St. Vincent's. Eventually a series of events led her to the finance department for the City of Homewood. Then when Linda Cook, the city clerk of Homewood for over 40 years, retired, Melody stepped into that role in addition to her finance responsibilities. Her impact has been felt ever since.
Her future aspirations include a more extensive role in teaching, aspiring to become an accounting professor. Additionally, she plans to utilize her expertise as a consultant for accounting software, aiding other governmental agencies and organizations.
Beyond her professional plans, Melody cherishes the prospect of spending quality time with her three children. Most of all, she eagerly anticipates reclaiming her Monday nights and dedicating more time to physical activity.
As a person with a servants heart, Melody says she appreciates the citizens of Homewood very much and thanks them for letting her serve this community for so long! As she embarks on this new chapter in her life, we extend our gratitude for her years of service and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
