Council meeting highlights, 11/18/24 Council announced the appointment of Jody Brant to fill the vacant Ward 3/Place 2 seat. Planning Commission highlights, 11/05/24 Item RS 24.11.01 & AD 24.11.02: These items were a request for a resurvey and amendment to a final development plan to accommodate a new plan to split the old Brookwood Mall location into three lots . One of the lots, the old Belk area, could become an Andrews Sports Medicine facility (SEE IMAGES BELOW). The applicant was not able to provide any update about what they are hoping to do with the other parts of the property. Finance Highlights 11/04/24 This was Walter Jones' final finance meeting as chair. As he steps into his new role as council president, he will pass this responsibility on to Barry Smith. The city has been fortunate to have had his steady leadership guiding the finance committee for the past two decades. Item 08.09.24: Fire Chief Brandon Broadhead provided an update including bids that were submitted for renovation to fire station three, located by Weygand filed in West Homewood. He provided drawings and pictures to help explain what is proposed to be added. New Mayor: Alex Wyatt New Council President: Walter Jones Ward 3, Place 2: Open Position There have been six applications for this council seat. Current council members will conduct interviews and announce the appointee this month. Effective November 1, 2024, Patrick McClusky has retired from public office. As such, a ccording to the State of Alabama's "Order of Succession" (see below), Alex Wyatt is now the new mayor of Homewood. Walter Jones has now assumed the role as council president. Councilor Jones’ seat for Ward 3, Place 2 is vacant and requires a replacement, which the council will appoint in November.

Find complete voting locations and more from the Alabama Secretary of State November 5th voting will be from 7:00am to 7:00pm in the following locations: Ward 1 Homewood Recreation Center Homewood Park - 1632 Oxmoor Road Ward 2 Senior Citizens Center 816 Oak Grove Road Ward 3 Edgewood Elementary School 901 College Avenue *There will be a temporary fence around the field area to secure the field perimeter and control access to school property during the school day. On election day, the field will be inaccessible to voters. To accommodate parking, there will be a reserved parking lot for faculty and staff. Voters are kindly requested to park at Edgewood Presbyterian Church, located at the corner of Oxmoor and Virginia. College Avenue will be available for voters with a disability all day, and other voters outside of carpool hours (7:20-8:00 am and 2:20-3:30 pm). This arrangement will allow our students to use the playground and field area as usual. Additional signage will be placed around the school on voting day to provide clear directions for navigating the school and voting area, and our district staff and local law enforcement will be assisting in the day’s operations. Ward 4 Homewood Public Library 1721 Oxmoor Road Ward 5 - Former Homewood City Schools Board of Education office 7 Hollywood Blvd. *Look for signs and staff to help you find your way. Voters should park in the horseshoe. More officers and staff will be on hand to manage traffic.

Council meeting highlights, October 28, 2024 Council President Alex Wyatt honored Mayor Patrick McClusky with a resolution, expressing gratitude for his 16 years of service to the city. With Mayor McClusky retiring from public service, this meeting was the last for him. Starting November 1, Alex Wyatt will assume the role of mayor of Homewood, serving until the next election in August 2025. Item 12.09.24: Council approved a request for permission to leave a new fence that is 35' into the right-of-way at 21 Crest Drive. This item will now go before the full council for a vote October 28, 2024 at 6:00pm. Item: 04.10.24: Council approved a request to install owl nesting boxes and signage on Shades Creek Greenway. This decision comes after numerous joggers have faced attacks from an owl during early morning runs. A Wildlife Center official recently detailed why the owl may be behaving this way, offering insight into their world. He said habitats could be built by local Boy Scout troops and placed all around the trail.
