Homewood city leaders have greenlit the expansion of the West Homewood entertainment district, driven by the exciting developments at the former Econo Lodge site. With the anticipated openings of Paramount and El Barrio next year, the city wants these new restaurants to flourish within the existing entertainment ecosystem. The expansion doesn't touch residential areas but remains strictly within the commercial zones of West Homewood. Entertainment districts allow businesses with alcohol licenses to obtain a license which allows for the consumption of alcoholic beverages off the premises, allowing customers to purchase a drink and walk around within the district. No alcohol may be brought into the district. Under Alabama Law, the entertainment district designation allows participating businesses with liquor licenses to sell alcohol to be consumed off-premises within the boundaries of the district and during business hours of operation.
